My name is Marie-Anne (Maz) Catterall, I am 45 years old and was born and raised in Wigan, Greater Manchester and I have lived in Upholland/Skelmersdale for about 15 years now.
For 22 years, I have been an English Teacher and I have had various Leadership roles within school over the years and most recently was Senior Leader of English and then Assistant Vice Principal.
It was a genuine calling and a vocation I loved for many years and was privileged to work with so many amazing young people and some outstanding colleagues. I have always had an innate passion for supporting, nurturing and guiding people, both staff and youngsters and this was always my favourite part of my role.
I value confidentiality, respect, and empathy, ensuring a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings.
Life Changing
My Healing Journey:
In June 2022, after an extremely challenging time in my life, I became extremely poorly and was later diagnosed with neurological conditions called Orofacial Dystonia and Functional Neurological Disorder.
I was suffering great challenges both mentally and physically. Fortunately, I have an incredibly supportive family and I was lucky enough to come into contact with some of the most inspirational people you could ever wish to meet and they supported me along my Healing Journey. In order to help myself, I have undertaken various courses but all along, I had the desire to be able to support someone else in the way that I had been supported myself. Now, I want nothing more than to be able to share what I have learnt with others to help them either improve or maintain their mental and/or physical wellbeing.
The story behind the name
The story behind the chosen name of my business, Angel 111 Healing, is one that is extremely close to my heart.
As a youngster, just 16 years old, I was so fortunate and was bursting with pride to make my debut and represent England Ladies First Team at football.
All of those years later, approximately a year after my diagnosis, and whilst at an extremely low point in my life, I was informed that I would be awarded a Legacy England Cap. When awarded, I found out that my Legacy Cap Number was 111. Later, I found that the number 111 was incredibly profound, it meant ‘New beginnings’, ‘encouragement to embrace opportunities’, ‘things are coming together for your best’, ‘to trust the process’, ‘everything is aligning in your favour’, ‘personal growth and transformation’, ‘to trust your intuition and to embrace change.’ It was like it was a sign.
I was the 111th woman to represent England Ladies and I was proud, but it felt more than that. It felt like I was being told to do what I needed to do and that those thoughts I had had for some time about change and supporting others had been given the ‘seal of approval’ and to make sure that I did not let the disability prevent me from getting there. The significance of 111 can apply to anyone who is undergoing a transition of any kind in their life. It can apply to YOU.
Additionally, my two beautiful Golden Retrievers got me up, out of bed and out of the house when not much else could.
I know how important animals/pets are to people and animals mean the world to me and therefore, I wanted to ensure that animals were also part of my offering.
