We spend the vast majority of our time in our conscious mind, that’s where you’re processing reading this, right now.
However, our sub-conscious mind is the part of our mind that contains memories, beliefs and automatic responses that operate below the levels of conscious awareness. Our sub-conscious mind keeps us safe. It creates defence mechanisms and asks you to do things it feels will be useful for you. However, at times these defence mechanisms are no longer relevant or needed, at times they can even make things more difficult for you or perhaps even make you worse, physically or mentally.
At times those defence mechanisms are simply incorrect. However, our unconscious mind does always try to support us. Some examples would be: anxiety trying to prepare you to face something that you think is a threat or depression helping to get away from what you think is a possible threat.

Make the change
Hypnotherapy can be incredibly beneficial because it works to change negative feelings or compulsions we are experiencing exactly where they begin, in your unconscious mind. By utilising techniques such as suggestion, imagery and metaphor, we can help the sub-conscious mind when it is most able to accept suggestion, which is when we become deeply relaxed. It is important to note, that if you want to come out of hypnosis, you will always be able to, at any time.
A hypnotherapy session will last for approximately an hour.
There are different elements to a hypnotherapy session. There is of course the hypnosis but there is also the therapy element which can also be other strategies utilised such as talking therapy/mindfulness.
A hypnosis consists of me using a technique to support you to become relaxed, then a strategy to deepen that relaxed state, then using suggestions to ‘tap into’ the sub-conscious mind where the work can be done on our therapeutic goals that we will set together, before using a strategy to bring you back from the hypnosis.
